Good to know (01_PSPFR_23)

In the explainer we successfully resized the logo to make it smaller, but what if you need to make an image LARGER? Have a look at the additional options available on PaintShop Pro’s resize dialog:

Generally speaking, if you want to UPSCALE an image it’s best to use the BICUBIC option, and for downscaling it’s best to use the BILINEAR option.

Current software, including the latest version of PaintShop Pro, also includes ‘AI’ (artificial intelligence) upscaling which can offer impressive results for common themes (E.g. Faces / buildings / landscapes). Check out this video for the science bit!

The logo we’ve opened and saved is in PNG format (refered to as ‘ping’). This format is popular for logos as it supports transparency (a ‘see through’ background). Photos are often stored in .jpg (jpeg) format, which does not support transparency, or ‘raw’ format which applies zero or very little compression. Different camera manufacturers use their own versions of ‘raw’, and most non-photographic software (E.g. Microsoft Office) does NOT support this format.
