NOTE: Storyline introduced improved ‘Neural voices’ in Autumn 2023. These are significantly more realistic than the basic voices available when the explainer for this section was recorded, though you can still use the basic voices if you like. Find out more about the new, improved voices.
The main steps in this video
Create a New Blank Slide:
Add a new blank slide to the project.
Name the slide appropriately (e.g., “Where Next”).
Add and Format Text:
Create a new text box on the slide.
Paste or type text into the box.
Format the text as needed.
Use Text-to-Speech for Narration:
Copy the text from the text box.
Go to ‘Insert’ > ‘Audio’ > ‘Text to Speech’.
Paste the text and select a voice for narration, experimenting with different options.
Insert the chosen voice, which adds an audio file to the timeline.
Preview the Narration:
Preview the slide to hear the text-to-speech narration.
If necessary, delete and replace the voice track for changes.
Insert a Character Image:
Go to ‘Insert’ > ‘Characters’ and choose a character (e.g., Samantha).
Select the character’s orientation and insert it onto the slide.
Position the character as desired, allowing parts to go off the slide if needed.
Animate the Character:
Select the character and go to the ‘Animations’ tab.
Choose an entrance animation (e.g., fly in from the bottom) and set the duration (e.g., two seconds).
Preview the animation to see it in action.
Add Additional Elements (e.g., Virtual Reality Glasses):
Search and select an additional element, like virtual reality glasses.
Place it over the character’s eyes and apply an animation (e.g., random bars).
Adjust the Timeline for Sequential Animations:
Modify the timeline so that the glasses appear after the character’s entrance.
Adjust the start time of the glasses animation to follow the character’s entrance.
Animate the Text Box:
Animate the text box to gradually fade in over time.
Adjust the text box’s start time in the timeline for the desired effect.
Preview the Completed Slide: Preview the slide to see all elements and animations in action.
