The main steps in this video:

1: Open the previous project

2: Trim video clips

  • Select the left or right-most end of a clip.
  • Hold down your left mouse button and drag to trim
  • If you’ll be doing a lot of editing, search online for ‘3 Point Editing’ as it’s a more efficient technique than the workflow used in this beginner course.

3: Add cross-fades

Pick up and drag the end of one clip over the start of another and a cross-fade is automatically created. Aim for a duration of one second to fit the pacing of the video – By default Vegas will ‘snap’ to one-second increments and show a pink vertical line to indicate a whole-second based crossfade.

4: Add fade-in and fade-out

  • Hover over the top left corner of the first clip in the sequence and slowly drag to the right to increase the duration of the fade-in.
  • Hover over the top right corner of the final clip in the sequence and drag to the left to increase the duration of the fade-out.

5: Render the updated sequence

Go to the file menu and click on ‘render as’. Refer to explainer number two in this series for help with render settings.
